Too lazy for spelling, speaking, grammar oh and laughing?

Hey all!  This is exciting my first ever blog!!  Well I am a mum to 4 amazing kids, all different but amazing in their own little ways.  Tonight's blog is inspired by my little princess Naomi who is 7.  Naomi suffers from ADD and although she loves interacting with other children she can sometimes be too much for them as she is so enthusiastic and overexcited.  Her favourite thing in the world used to be to dress up as the Disney princesses and she has a whole wardrobe full of outfits.  Now she seems to have outgrown this already and she spends a lot of time on the ipad and the laptop.  This in itself worries me a lot, I try to get her to go out and play and she is back within 10 minutes with an excuse why she can't play out.  Sometimes they are ridiculous.  I offer to take her to the park or out on her bike and it's the same thing so in the end I reason with myself that she is happy and safe so that is the main thing.

Spending so much time online she has obviously come into contact with "text language"  I was amazed tonight as we were watching TV and an advert by the mobile network 3 came on.  It featured a dancing pony so I said to Naomi "quick look at the dancing pony!" She looked round and replied:
"aw LOL" (pronounced lawl)  I couldn't believe my ears and I said "Did you just say LOL?"
"Yeah" she replied as if it was nothing out of the ordinary.  Have I missed something?  Are we now too lazy to actually laugh at something?  Is the future generation going to remain straight faced and eventually communicate like robots!  Can you just imagine them going about speaking in shortened slang, a conversation in English is eventually going to sound like a foreign language!  Sometimes it takes me a good 5 minutes to decipher a text from my teenage daughter as I'm so not down with the kids anymore!

Even having a conversation with my teenage daughter is full of abbreviated words.  I will say to her "Are you going out tonight?"
She will answer with "Obvs!"  people are becoming so lazy they can't even finish a word.  I despair to think what the future will be like.  I actually enjoy using the English language and constantly notice that the age of spelling and grammar is well and truly over.  I only have to look at the comments people put on facebook and I get really angry.  I hate bad spelling and grammar! (better make sure I spell check this baby before I put it out)  Those usual rants from people something along the lines of:  I STG (swear to God) some ppl need to mind there own bizness!!  Grr makes my blood boil wrong use of the word there and abbreviations all over the place.

It's plain to see modern technology is making our next generation lazy in all areas of life!  My kids don't want to go out and play and socialise unless forced to, My eldest can't be bothered to pronounce full words and everything people write is shortened to as little as possible!  Coupled with the non exercise element of spending your life on a computer I feel the world may just turn into a nation of Fat Robots who may eventually lose the ability to speak!

Rant over, I would love to hear your thoughts on this or maybe other things you have noticed are dying out such as laughing!!!  Maybe we should have a turn the Internet off day once a year?  Might be a breath of fresh air LOL
